The Contestants
The competition is on-line and hosted by MakeAffinity.com. The competition will run for a period of 4 weeks where contestants will put their robots on-line (Go LIVE), refine them or take them off-line for any purpose and iterate continually if necessary. Unlike the typical robotics competition, there are no set tasks for your robot to perform. It can be any kind of robot under any theme performing any task. There are a few rules, such as the minimum complexity of your robot. Please visit the Rules page to get a detailed picture. To participate as a contestant, just Register Your Robot. Registration is possible at any stage of the competition. To Go LIVE with your robot, just follow the Quick Start guide.
The Judges
You choose the winners. Internet users are invited to be the judges of the competition (American Idol might come to mind). Judging is continuous and possible whenever a robot is LIVE. Judging is done through the 5-star rating mechanism. Judges simply view and control a robot and then vote for it. There are no rules against early and frequent voting - judges are encouraged to vote early and frequent to avoid disappointment. The largest category of prizes are awarded to the robots with the highest ratings at the closing time. To participate as a judge, just view the competing robots and vote!
The Spectators
Internet users are invited to participate as spectators and critics and even provide feedback to the competing robots. Feedback can be placed as user comments for the robot, forum messages or they can be placed at the contestants' profile pages. You never know if your ideas might turn into the next big thing in robotics. Collaborate now! In fact, why just watch when you can play too - all spectators are encouraged to vote as well as watch!
The Sponsors
All of the sponsorship money that we receive will go into prizes for the competition. Robot Idol 2009 is the first fully-online LIVE robotics competition, and invites Internet users to participate as sponsors, contestants, judges and spectators. It is the first competition of its kind (as far as we know) and has a real potential to advance robotics on the Internet far into the mainstream. Whether you sponsor $1, 10, 100 or 1000, your sponsorship is a strong statement about your commitment to advance and promote the field of robotics in particular, and awareness of science, technology and fun in general. Sponsor through PayPal or with your credit card. Your sponsorship will be safely and securely processed by PayPal. Add your name to the Sponsors Cloud & List in Real-time! Help make this competition a success!
